After a full day of children and teachers on Monday, Tuesday was for adults. The team met the challenge once again, of early morning traffic and arrived at La Carpio in plenty of time before our workshop attendees. People started arriving and we were ready. Today was STORIES! The Nicaraguan refugees shared tender stories, funny stories and stories that brought tears to everyone’s eyes. A rip-roaring rendition of Tootie Tah raised the roof with the group’s laughter. And we were then given the honor of being the audience for their play of fleeing out of Nicaragua for freedom in Costa Rica. Next came lots of hugs.
Of course sometimes our adventures are a bit damper. Three of the team walked, in the rain, to the Costa Rican Walmart. This sounds simple, but adventures can come at any time. Yellow caution paint is very slippery; it is the paint that you need to be aware of. The cars do not know the Wisconsin rule that the pedestrian has the right of way. Beware. And walking on the sidewalk? Well, have you ever seen a movie where someone is splashed with brown water by passing cars? Just ask Annette O’Hern about it. I think she is ready for the movies!
